Tom and Jerry’s funny world exhibition in Aomori City

Hubby and I had been on a sightseeing trip to Aomori City in December 2016. On the afternoon of 23rd December, we went to see an exhibition named ‘Tom and Jerry’s funny world exhibition’ held in the city. Such an exhibition was held for the first time in Tohoku region and we took the opportunity to visit the exhibition. It was held at Aomori Prefectural Art Museum from 26th November 2016 to 15th January 2017. There were various kinds of Tom and Jerry related exhibits that included animations, art collections, comic panels, television series corner, short films and movies corner, and photography corner. Several Tom and Jerry themed special events were held throughout the exhibition period. In addition, a makeshift shop was set up that sold popular Tom and Jerry goods, limited items as well as new products to the visitors. Photography was allowed everywhere inside the exhibition area to capture the beautiful moments with Tom and Jerry.

Hubby and I reached in front of Aomori Prefectural Art Museum in Aomori City at about 3 pm on 23rd December 2016. The museum building was a white colored modern structure. We entered inside the museum building and purchased two tickets each worth 700 Yen as admission fee to see the ‘Tom and Jerry’s funny world exhibition’. Next we walked for a few minutes inside the museum building and reached the Community Gallery area where the exhibition was held. There we saw a huge signboard of Tom and Jerry welcoming all the visitors to the exhibition. At the lobby area of the Community Gallery, we had an obligatory photo opportunity with huge colorful figures of Tom and Jerry. It felt great to introduce ourselves to Tom and Jerry.

We entered the first exhibition room at the Community Gallery area and saw huge colorful panels depicting and celebrating the characters Tom and Jerry. Next, we saw many panels with information and images of various characters of the Tom and Jerry animated series and short films. There was another section in this room that provided detailed information about the history of the animated series and short films. We loved reading about the historical details and some really interesting little tidbits. In addition, this room had many exhibits of artworks by artists from Japan as well as abroad. Right in the middle of this room, we saw Jerry’s room named ‘Jerry’s Sweet Hole’. We could look through the room, which was magnified and so colorful with interesting details. Tom and Jerry seemed to play around in the exhibition room and we loved meeting them.

Next, we went to the second exhibition room at the Community Gallery area where many images from the old as well as new Tom and Jerry short films and movies were exhibited. The room was done so artistically and had many colorful images from various short films and movies. There were many panels with interesting information about the short films and movies made through the decades. We loved seeing the colorful images and reading the detailed information about the short films and movies.

Afterwards, we went to the third exhibition room at the Community Gallery area of the museum. Here we saw a few brain teasers like puzzles, quizzes, and finding mistakes or differences in pictures. This section was very interesting and we spent a lot of time there. In another section of the room, there was continuous screening of many Tom and Jerry animated series and we saw children as well as adults glued to the screens. We also watched one of the old-time Tom and Jerry animations. In addition, we saw trick art photography exhibition in yet another section of this room. It was funny to pose with a few of such trick art photographs. Finally, we saw a collection of comic panels and posters of the old-time Tom and Jerry animated series in one more section of the room. This room had plenty of fun exhibits, and we loved looking at them and time passed so quickly.

Finally we went to a makeshift shop that sold popular Tom and Jerry goods, limited items as well as new products to the visitors. We bought a couple of DVDs and a few collectible items and left the exhibition area. We enjoyed the sweet and funny world of Tom and Jerry and got lost in the fantasy world, even if just for a little while.

Drive from Aomori City to Shingo Village

As I wrote in an earlier post, hubby and I had been on a sightseeing trip to Aomori prefecture in the month of December 2016. On 22nd December, we visited the Tomb of Jesus Christ in Shingo Village in the nighttime, and later stayed at a hotel in Aomori City that night. The next day on 23rd December, we visited Sannai Maruyama archaeological site and a related museum in Aomori City and an exhibition of Tom and Jerry products in the city itself. That night also we stayed at the same hotel in Aomori City. On 24th morning, we checked out of the hotel and started on our return trip to home. When we reached around Shingo Village, we took a detour and again visited the Tomb of Jesus Christ. In this post, I will write about our car ride from Aomori City to Shingo Village and the beautiful snow covered nature all around us.

While driving within Aomori City, we noted that although the weather was fine that time, it had snowed heavily the previous two nights, and there was snow all around us along the road. A lot of snow had accumulated, and the trees and faraway mountains were fully covered in snow. We clicked a few photos of the snow covered Aomori City and the faraway views from inside our car.

After about an hour of driving along a highway, we reached a mountainous road with dense forest along both sides of the road. We saw blankets of heavy snow all around us along this curvy road. There was deep snow on the mountains and everything seemed to be purified and white in color. We loved looking at the wonderful pure white forest along the road. The snow covered nature looked so beautiful and it seemed to welcome everyone for a white Christmas. Although I do not like such extreme cold weather, seeing the snow covered nature and pure whiteness all around us was a treat to our eyes. We clicked many photos of the snow covered mountainous road, the white forest along the road, and the mountain itself from inside our car. All the photos look like the back and white era photos with a hint of blue sky sometimes. Please enjoy looking at the photos.

After about two hours of car ride, we reached Shingo Village where we loved looking at the Tomb of Jesus Christ in the daytime and enjoyed playing with the fluffy snow near the tomb area. We left Shingo Village at about 2 pm and started on our way back home. Along the way, we saw snow covered Mount Iwate in Iwate prefecture. The mountain looked majestic.
